Apple has issued a brief press release (and by brief, I mean two sentences) that confirms the unavailability of the white iPhone 4 at launch — instead, it’s going to hit sometime in the middle of July. The white models have been “more challenging to manufacture than expected,” which has something to do with the use of the white paint. Bummer. I’m sure this is going to upset quite a few people, and I also expect quite a few to buy black iPhone 4s and return them in the middle of July.

CUPERTINO, Calif., June 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.
