Finally, some new electronic clothes! Designers from the Canadian Film Center’s Interactive A&E program have come up with the Neighbourhoodie, a gaming system for the real world. Users download an app for their iPhone/iPod Touch, and connect the device to the Neighbourhoodie. The hoodie features a system of speakers, lights, and proximity sensors that work in conjuction with the iPod app. One game makes a certain hoodie light up with red LEDs, which means the person is “it”, and a sound plays in the other user’s hoods when they’re getting close to them. Pretty classic stuff.
It’s a little crude in its implementation, but with a little refinement, there’s a lot of cool possibilities for this sort of game experience. Check the video out to see it for yourself.
