The HP Slate is apparently dead in the water, thanks to difficulties with Windows 7 as a tablet OS. Sources said that Microsoft’s OS was simply too power hungry for a device that’s supposed to compete with the iPad, whose custom A4 processor gives the ultraportable lots of battery life.
But new rumors are circulating that HP’s not done with the tablet market just yet. There’s rumblings that the tablet project is being reconfigured, and that the new device is called the HP Hurricane and that it runs on Palm’s WebOS. This would make a lot of sense, considering that HP just bought Palm and their mobile operating system is certainly less processor intensive than Windows 7. The upcoming tablet is expected within Q3 of this year, but we’ll just to wait for more details.
