Sony SoundMug-1

I thought Sony was all about getting smarter, not stupider?  The RDP-NWV500 speaker would have you believing the latter.  It’s a speaker system shaped like a portable, insulated coffee mug and fits neatly into your car’s cup holder.  Sony wants you to attach an MP3 player to it and blast your tunes not through you car’s stereo but through a much smaller, less powerful 16w 360 degree shaped speaker.

So it actually might be good for GPS devices and if it had a mic built-in to it than there would be two semi-practical applications.  The SoundMug can be powered off the car’s cigarette lighter and when you get home you can dock it with a compatible Sony Walkman.

Price you ask? Just over $200, which is $199 more than I’m willing to spend.
