Airbags are standard issue in automobiles and have proven to save lives. So what about motorcyclist? Years ago we saw a bike that included an airbag, but until now we hadn’t seen a practical solution. The Tech Air Race motorcycle suit is a revolutionary device that incorporates a number of hidden air bags that can inflate in as little as 50ms using a combination of electronic sensors and a cold charge nitrogen system. A set of algorithms monitors the rider’s movement and the system won’t arm unless the rider is moving and the engine (electric or combustion) is running. In the event of an accident – God forbid – the suit either works with the bike’s GPS or uses its own GPS system to relay the location of the accident. Alpinestars says the suit will be available to consumers June 2011 and will add about $2,500 to a standard motorcycle suit.
