3-D movies, 3-D HDTV’s, and now 3-D portable game consoles — looks like the 3-D trend is here to stay. Nintendo announced their latest handheld today, the 3DS, and it looks mighty impressive.
The device will offer 3-D gameplay without the use of stereoscopic glasses, with the use of two screens. Rumored specs include a built-in accelerometer (like the iPhone/iPhone touch), and the first HD screen from Nintendo — whether this is for both screens or not is unknown. The console with also be backwards compatible with Nintendo DS and DSi games, featuring two built-in cameras (on the front and back) for DSi titles.
The device will be playable at June’s E3 expo, with an expected release between April and March 2011.
Update: We’ve added the real pic since many people were complaining that the mockup originally (now removed) posted was fake/misleading. Sorry about that, you crazed fan boys.
