Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimilus Package’ Crippling Xbox Live

This morning reports trickled in from all over the web that the first map pack for Modern Warfare 2, Stimilus Package, are doing anything but. Apparently, the DLC is not only NOT working but crippling the Xbox Live service. So if you’ve downloaded the map pack here’s what you can expect according to Microsoft’s support page:

Creating new Xbox LIVE accounts, managing those accounts, or recovering an account on a different console
Buying downloadable items from the Xbox 360 console, Xbox.com, or Games for Windows – LIVE
Paying for downloadable items with a credit card
Signing into Games for Windows – LIVE on a PC
Redeeming downloadable items with Microsoft Points, buying additional Microsoft Points, or viewing your points balance
Using prepaid cards or codes for downloadable items or Xbox LIVE subscriptions
Purchase transactions using the Games for Windows LIVE client.

Fourzerotwo, a guy who works for Infinity Wards has posted a screen shot depicting the number of MW2 connections and it looks to be getting more stable.

I got the stimulus pack about 9am EST. The download was a little slow, but tollerable for a popular title on release day. It was only like 350 meg, so it wasnt that bad at all. The problem is, the game will not run now. I could play solo, but no multiplayer at all on xbl. Aparently the game needs to update something first, and as for my console, forget it, the system “has disconected from the Xbox Live Servers.”
I suspect something else is really going on here. We have all be in games where the console acting as a server ‘times out’ and the game has to migrate to another. Once in a while it would be nice to have an honest answer. and to top it off, my valuable day off I intended to use playing MW2 is now shot. 1200 points later, and six hours, still nothing. They should make this map pack FREE and refund the points already collected!
