Come February 2010 the YouRockGuitar will finally hit store shelves and cost $179.95. So what is this odd looking piece of music kit? It actually serves two purposes: it can double as a video game guitar for Guitar Hero and Rock band, or play like a real instrument.
In order to use the YouRockGuitar as a video game controller you’ll need to purchase the necessary Gameflex cartridges. My guess is that you’ll have to purchase the cartridge that pertains to your video game console of choice, but no matter what system you play with, you won’t be playing with buttons any longer but with actual frets and strings.
For the aspiring musician the YouRockGuitar can be used a MIDI controller as well as a guitar that requires no tuning…ever. In fact, you can even plug it into your iPhone and play along with a song of your choosing. It sounds like they’ll have some training tools in addition to a You Rock Mode that insures you’ll never make a mistake.
At this point its not clear what software or apps will be released with the YouRockGuitar, but one thing is for sure; you’re getting a whole lot for your money. We’ll be sure to score one and have our resident musician (Jeff), check it out.
