Hurricane Katrina left 1000s homeless when the levies broke. The water surged in and destroyed everything they had including their homes.
Introduced today as part of Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation, the Float House is a specially designed home built to survive yet another Katrina like flood. Instead of being raised up on 12 foot poles, the float house will actually float in the event of a flood. And I know what you’re thinking, no it won’t actually float away and create a giant sea of bumper car homes. The Float House will rise up 12 feet on two guide posts and will safely detach itself from the electricity, plumbing and gas connections. On board will be a battery backup system which should provide enough juice for a small family to survive for up to 3 days.
