Is Apple going to announce the next iteration of Apple TV at next weeks press event?  Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has been lead to this conclusion after noticing that the 40GB Apple TV shipping window has been extended to 1 – 2 weeks.  But is that really an indicator of a product refresh?  I don’t think so.  It’s pretty much guaranteed that Apple will announce all new Apple iPod Touches and their shipping window, for all capacities, still remains at 24 hours.  Then again, Apple TV hasn’t exactly been a run away success, so I suppose Apple could still take orders and offer a newly announced version as a replacement, but this approach seems complete unorthodox, even for Apple.

Munster is basing his opinion partially on the fact that Apple’s online store shows a 1-2 week delivery time for the Apple TV, which he said he finds “puzzling ahead of next week’s event.”

Munster feels that Apple may phase out the 40GB model and lower the price of the 160GB model to make room in the product category. “A new model is possible given the hardware has been the same for 2+ years,” said Munster.
