I was never a die hard Super Mario Bros fan, but oh boy did they exist.  And despite my dislike for the game I still recall seeing the movie “The Wiz” in theater, which featured Super Mario Bros 3 projected on a giant screen.  Now fans of the popular game can rejoice because Nintendo is releasing a version for the Wii.

This time around, though, you’ll be able to play with up to 4 friends simultaneously.  You can work together cooperatively or fling each other at the enemy.  The game takes on the same side scrolling fun from the 80s and because the game can facilitate up to 4 players they’ve added in a blue and yellow toad character when you’ve got more than just your best bud over.  In addition to the usual power ups (flower for fireballs, mushroom for growth) they’ve also tossed in a Propeller suit that will give you some extra jumping abilities as well as a Penguin suit that will enable you to freeze foes and slide around like the short winged fowl.  As a true ode to the original game, controlling Mario and Luigi will be NES style and require the user to turn the Wiimote horizontally.

There is no official launch date as of now, but expect it sometime this holiday season.
