For long, flip camera phones have had dual LCD screens for self portraits, so it was only a matter of time until a consumer electronics manufacture came along and introduced a comparable offering in the point and shoot arena.
Announced last week, the Samsung DualView TL225 and TL220 both feature a 1.5-inch LCD on the face of the camera. It’s rather obvious, but the screens are intended to assist with the always challenging self portrait that I know me and many of my friends are guilty of while on vacation with their significant other.
But the screen’s functionality don’t just stop there. Samsung has also included a few ‘child like’ animations to keep infants and small children entertained while taking their picture – it’s the 2010 version of ‘look at the birdie’. And for those of you that get inpatient while using the self-portrait function you’ll be pleased to know that the screen will display the timer’s countdown.
On the back of the TL225 is a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD, while the lesser TL220 sports a smaller 3-inch touchscreen. Both accept a few gesture commands such as the ability to flick images to the left or right for review as well as the ability to draw an X with the finger to delete or a circle to rotate the photo. Other features include a 12.2 megapixel sensor, 4.6x optical zoom, dual image stabilization, face detection and 720p movie mode.
The Samsung DualView TL225 and TL220 cameras are expected to arrive in stores this September and cost $350 and $300 respectively.
