WWDC 09: Apple Updates Macbook Pro Line, Adds A New 13.3-inch Macbook Pro, Drops Prices & More

WWDC has officially kicked off and right out of the gate Apple announced new Unibody Macbook Pros and Macbooks.  The entire Pro line up will receive the same built-in battery as the 17-inch Macbook Pro (this will receive a significant price cut; $2,499), which provides on average up to 1,000 recharges and 7 hours of juice on a single charge.  They’ve also dropped the starting price to $1,699 and maxed out the specs to 3.06Ghz Core2 Duo processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and up to a 500GB HDD or 256GB SSD.  Lastly, they’ve done away with the ExpressCard slot and replaced it with an SD card reader.  The 3 standard configurations for the Macbook Pro, which start shipping today, are as follows:

  1. $1,699: 2.53GHZ, 4GB DDR3 RAM)
  2. $1,999: 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM 320GB HD
  3. $2,299: 2.8GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HD (or 256GB SSD)

Apple has also added a new 13.3-inch Macbook Pro, which is essentially the new Unibody Macbook with a spec increase that includes up to 2.13Ghz Core2 Duo processor, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, up to a 500GH HDD and a standard backlit keyboard.  Also includes is Firewire 800, SD card slot and the same built-in battery.  The 2 standard configurations are as follows:

  1. $1,499: 1.86GHz , 2GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 120GB HDD
  2. $1,799: 2.13GHz, 2GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 128GB SSD

Lastly, and least, they’ve dropped the price point of the Macbook Air to $1,499.  Standard configs are as follows.

  1. $1,499: 1.86GHz, 2GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 120GB HDD
  2. $1,799: 2.13GHz, 2GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 128GB SSD
