It’s not too often that I post about cars based purely on aesthetics, but the McLaren P11 is the exception.  Under the hood of this magnificent looking beast is a  Mercedes AMG-sourced 6.2-litre V8 engine that accomplishes 0-60 in under 4 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph.   Yet somehow it manages to be one of the more environmentally friendly cars in its class.  Perhaps it’s the regenerative breaking system that captures the energy from slowing to boost the engine’s strength?

The P11 will be on show at this year’s LA Auto Show and will go into production sometime in 2011.  Cost: $220,000.
