The year 2009 is only a month and half in and it’s shaping up to be a green one for consumer electronics. Yesterday, we saw the unveiling of LG’s energy efficient LCDs and today Samsung has taken the wraps of their Blue Earth phone. The handset makes also sorts of strides in the Eco field by being void of harmful chemicals, being built from recycled water bottles (similar to Motorola’s Eco phone) and including an Eco mode that manages the screen’s brightness, Bluetooth power consumption and backlighting. Ok, that’s good and all, but nothing Earth shattering. But wait there’s more! Built into the back of the device are a set of solar panels that are said to be efficient enough to power the handset for a telephone call.
No word on a US release, but the Samsung Blue Earth phone will be available in the UK in the second half of 2009.
