Actually manufactured by Panasonic, the Lacie D2 Blu Ray Drive looks very cool with all the format logos draped on the disc tray. Here’s the specs:
- Writes up to 50Gb on a single dual layer BD-R disc
- Supports USB 2.0 and Firewire connections
- Writes at speeds of 4x to 8x with USB 2.0 capping out at 6x
- Supports BD-RE, DVD+-R, DVD+-RW, DVD+-R DL, CD-R and CD-RW discs
- Writes data files
- Plays back BD-ROM, BD-ROM AACS, BD-R and BD-RE discs
Note: Blu Ray playback is currently prohibited by current Mac OSX systems.
Though a hefty price tag at around $450, it won’t come close to all the money you stole from Hollywood. No street date yet.
