Canon announced a crap load of cameras yesterday. This post is going to address the SD series. So strap yourself in for some ‘point and shoot’ news, because there’s plenty of it coming.
The SD960IS, SD970IS, SD990IS and SD780IS are of course all very similar in that they all sport the same 12.4 megapixel sensor, Digic IV image processor and similar body styles. The 990 and 970, though, include a 3.7x and 5x optical zoom and a faster burst mode, while the 960 rocks a 4x optical zoom. Screen size for the cameras are 2.8-inches, 3-inches, 2.5-inches and 2.5-inches respectively. Price for the cameras, although not finalized will start at $279 and top out at $400.
Moving on to the 10.3 megapixel shooters is the SD1200 and SD880IS. LCDs for these cameras are 2.5-inches and 3-inches and include 3x and 4x optical zooms. Outside of that there isn’t much that is too remarkable about these cameras. Pricing for these cameras start at $230.
Note: Some of these cameras were announced last year and are currently for sale, but they’re still considered ‘new’. In other words, I had too hard of a time sifting through the ‘new new’ vs the ‘sort of new’. The SD780 and SD960 seem to be the newest of the bunch.
