As expected, Acer pushed out their smartphones today – called the Tempo Smarphone Series – and gee willikers they’re underwhelming.
First up, and keep in mind this is based on a nonworking specs page (i.e. the overview page) is the X960. It’s a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen (640×480) device with 3G connectivity, 533Mhz Samsung S3C 6400 mobile processor, 3.2 megapixel camera, an ‘easy to use’ virtual keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1 with Acer’s Shell V2.0 widget OS, microSD card slot, WiFi, and GPS courtesy of a SirfStarIII GPS chip. The X960 measures 106.4 x 59 x 13.7mm (HxWxD) and weighs 131.5g.
Next, is the F900. It pretty much sports the same feature set as the X960, but includes a larger 3.8-inch touchscreen (480×800) and a slightly different processor, the Samsung S3C 6410. It measures 117.5x 63.5 x 15.85 mm and weighs 150g.
Third in line is the M900. This handset at first seems to be an almost copy of the F900 but takes a more rounded shape, includes a full QWERTY slide out keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, 3.8-inch touchscreen (800×480) and fingerprint reader. It measures 119 x 62 x 17.1 mm and weighs 188g.
Last up, is the DX900. At this point, I’m not sure on screen size or camera megapixels since each product page includes typos, but if I’m correct this handset includes a 2.8-inch touchscreen, fingerprint reader, 3 megapixel camera and drum roll…dueling SIM slots, which Acer claims can accept both 3G and 2G SIM cards simultaneously, something they’re saying is a world’s first. The DX900 measures 106 x 60.5 x 17 mm and weighs 147g.
No word on carrier or price, but since (or at least) two of Acer’s Smartphones seem to be adopting 2.5mm headphone jacks you can, or should consider these things dead in the water, unless of course you’re of the corporatey type. Hit the gallery for each phone.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
