Sure, toasters are a dime a dozen, but if you’re stuck within the confines of a cubicle it’s unlikely that you’ve got access to one. If so, Korean designer Kim Been wants to liberate you from the days of chewy bagels and soggy bread. His invention, the Portable Toaster Knife is still in the works, but if all goes well he anticipates it being on store shelves by year’s end.
It works using nanotechnology and molecular sized tubes of carbon to produce and spread heat over a ceramic like knife. Swipe the ‘knife’ across the bread’s surface a few times and it begins to toast. Molecular and nanotechnology? Sounds a bit of a stretch, but skeptics aside (myself included) it should prove a useful for those looking to cauterize battlefield wounds while all the while putting a bit of crunch in the daily rations.
