While the unveiling of the newest handset to feature Google’s funky new software seemed promising, so are wet noodles before they are cooked. In the case of noodles, it all depends on the chef; with this handset, other forces are at work. In the end, the doctor (and the nurse and the patient) all ordered something else!

The Sciphone Dream G2 may not be exciting in terms of innovative features, but it certainly does offer some specs that are unusual and in some cases, highly bizarre. Its good features include: a touch-screen 2.8in QVGA display with 262k colors, WiFi, FM tuner, a reduced form factor compared to the G1 (56 x 107.2 x 11.8mm, 110g) and a chunky 1500mh A battery offering up to a claimed 450 minutes talk time and 300 hours standby. The bad news is that there is no 3G (the third generation of mobile phone standards), no GPS and only a mere 50 MB of internal memory. The bizarre options include a 4MP camera (wha?) and no physical keypad of any sort.

This Android-powered handset from China is expected to be available on the 28th of this month. Not exactly a dream come true at any price, noc one knows how much that will be. It can only be hoped that the Dream G2 does not turn out to be a nightmare.

Good night.
