GPS — 18 November 2008
Still regretting the Gen 1 iPhone for lack of GPS? Soon your regrets maybe no longer. A telephony electronics company called Sagem, and GPS experts Bluesky have teamed up to produced a SIM card embedded with GPS. The details are a bit vague, but apparently it “incorporates a GPS receiver and a proprietary antenna into the SIM card, enabling mobile operators to deploy applications with no need for software or hardware changes”. Initially, the GPS enabled SIM card will assist E112 and E911 emergency location services in Europe, but eventually they’ll be enabled for full location based services.
