AT&T Launches The Samsung Eternity, Another Touchscreen Device

AT&T launched yet another touchscreen device today, the Samsung Eternity, and like its namesake it’ll probably take that that long for it to reach any level of popularity. Why so you ask? They’re selling it for $149 after a 2-year and $50 mail-in-rebate. The iPhone is $50 more and offers a whole lot more (minus the TV and video capture part).
Funny enough, if the Eternity was launched a few year ago, or perhaps even a year ago (the iPhone was much more expensive then), it would have been the ‘must have device’ of the holidays. It’s rocking a 3 megapixel camera with still and video capabilities, 3G connectivity, GPS, a media player, AT&T’s Mobile TV, video share calling, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot for expansion, presumably a full HTML browser, and the quintessential 3.2″ (240×400) touchscreen with haptic feedback and accelerometer.

Sadly, you may be missing the point. I can buy an Eternity for $50 less than an iPhone AND I don’t have to have a data package commitment for two years. If I want the data, I can call them up and turn it on. If I decide it isn’t worth it, I can turn it back off, saving $35 per month.
$35 x 24 = $840
Unlimited data is only $15 for this phone since it isn’t a ‘PDA phone’.
For $35 you get unlimited text AND unlimited data.
You’re right, this is the HUGE benefit over the iphone.
and now its only $20 for both text and the data plan
