According to one
iPhone
customer, an AT&T sales person demanded that he activate the iPhone at the time of purchase to prevent him from going home and ‘unlocking it’. Although, this contradicts the recently passed law (well about a year ago now if my memory serves me correctly) legally allowing anyone to unlock their phone, I’m not too surprised considering how many contracts AT&T lost due to unlocking last year. But it’s highly unlikely AT&T will be allowed to institute this policy since the Apple store allows folks to ‘purchase and walk’.
