Forget about the Prius and forget about the Tesla (ok, don’t totally forget about the Tesla cause it’s a cool all electric sports car). It’s all about oxygen, or air powered cars. According to its inventor, Guy Nègre, the OneCat oxygen car will be available for purchase (France initially) in just one year. Each car will go for roughly $5000 and hit a top speed of just over 80mph. The air tanks, which take just 3 minutes to fill up using an air compressor, are composed of carbon fiber. In the event of an accident they’ll just split posing no threat to the driver or passengers. On long journies some sort of ‘petrol burner’ will heat the air and increase efficiency. Achieved range on regular air is expected to be about 60 miles. Warm the air and that range increases to 500 miles.
