Fujistsu Lifebook P1610 Touch Screen Laptop 2
Fujistu began ‘offering’ its first set of ‘solid state drive’, or as I have awkwardly called them Flash Memory (hard drive) Based notebooks, today. The drives are set to appear in the touchscreen Lifebook P1610 and B6210. There will be two sizes available: 16GB and 32GB and will carry a premium of $500 and $1,300 respectively. According to Informationweek, Fujitsu will start by targeting companies that are looking to order 50+ notebooks, so I don’t expect these specific models on store shelves in the very near future, but sometime soon (I really don’t know and I’m just inferring – take it or leave it). The P1610 weighs a mere 2.2lbs, while the B6210 weighs 3.2lbs. The current P1610 and B6210 go for about $2k and $1400 respectively.

How does the flash drive memory feature work?

This is great and I will tell you why. Just listen for a moment and you can hear you laptop or pc humming away. That would be your hardrive and cooling fan or coolant system spinning away.

The future is here. SSM or solid state memory is soundless and produces very little heat so that you can sit with your laptop on your lap for hours without that uncomfortable heat and you can turn your laptop on anywhere without everyone turning to see where that noise is coming from.
Also the kind of damage that can occur to cords and ribbons from heat goes down and the life expectancy of your pc goes up.
SSM is also easily upgradable because it plugs in like a flash drive. I love this. I’m not sure which magazine, either Popular Science, or Popular mechanics had SSM as one of the greatest inventions for 2007.
I can’t wait until Fujitsu starts selling it online to individuals.
