Logitech Harmony Remote Software on Intel Macs

So I recently was trying to program a Logitech Harmony 880 Universal Remote on my MacBook Pro and encountered some problems. I couldn’t find any posts on this on the web so I figured I’d share this with you guys.

The current Mac OS X Logitech Harmony Remote Software does NOT work on Intel Macs. This is a known issue at Logitech and they are working on a universal binary. If you call up tech support and get escalated to a higher tech they can get you a beta version of the new software.

The Logitech Harmony family of remotes is fanastic and one of the few I’ve seen with software for the Mac. I sure hope they get the universal binary out soon.

We ran into problems on a PC with a cable internet connection. sending and receiving data from logitech’s servers took almost 14 hours to program the remote. It was frustrating, but it worked in the end.

I found a version 5.3.2.5 for OS X by doing a “Search” on “360″ and found a support article claiming to work with the new Xbox 360 Adavnaced Universal Remote and other models.. It’s not dated, but after following all the instructions, the Harmony Remote program still freezes at 0%. I’m awaiting a response.

For your info, the software has been updated and is now compatible with both Mac Intel and Standard Mac: Software version 5.3.2.5 for Harmony 360, Harmony 880, Harmony 885, Harmony 880 Pro, 500 series, 600 series and 700 series Remotes

Post 10 is NOT TRUE. Version 5.3.2.5 freezes at 0% and DOES NOT WORK on my Intel iMac.

I agree with Andrew. Version 5.3.2.5 freezes at 0% on my Intel iMac. Logitech needs to solve this issue quickly. Please post it if you hear about an update.

5.3.2.10 works for me on my MacBook Pro and on my Intel Mac Mini.

Check Versiontracker.com for som esuggestions on trboule shooting the install. Some people needed to delete some pre-existing files from prior attempts to install the harmony program before the current release.

Anyone having luck programming the Harmony to execute the little Apple remote controls command for Front row?

Why not get rid of the Mac and get a PC? that would solve all your compadability problems.

“Buy a PC”??? Wow, what an incredibly horrible bit of advice. Do you all actually think users should trade a bit of growing pains in obtaining Harmony Remote software, for a never-ending nightmare of viruses, spyware, spam, functional problems, etc.?

Macs are only a bad idea for those who have never used one. All those who have made the switch, recognize just how much better the Mac platform is, than anything Windows-based.

And, back on topic: Harmony Remote 7.x is now Universal, and (once updated via the online feature) works like a charm. It was off topic, and a silly response, but no less obnoxious than Mac fanboys who post “Buy a Mac” whenever anyone posts a question about a problem (as if doing so will solve all your problems). Please.

lol. “Made the switch”? Why do Mac fanboys act like it’s a religion (and just as obnoxious and fanatical). Seriously, I have a MacBook, and I have a ThinkPad. I use Windows, Mac, and Linux and have been working in this industry for > 10 years. Absolute statements such as this are rarely correct, and this is no exception.

I have cross-platform applications that runs so ungodly unstable on a Mac, it’s not even funny (and I have others than run far better on OS X).

The truth is that each has its own strengths, and anyone worth his salt recognizes that and uses the the right tool for the job at hand.

Put the Kool-Aid down and cut the fanatical, condescending, fanboy BS.

All that being said, version 7.0.1 of the Harmony Software runs perfectly well on my Intel Mac Book Core Duo (and as well on my Windows XP rigs). Use whichever you want to use.

when i log in the software, it keeps telling me timed out.. and doesnt let me log in.. i have already programmed part of the harmony 885 but it timed out and thats it. their telephone support has no idea why. does anyone know why i cant log in? thanks for you help

I had tried V 7.3.2.5 of the Logitech Harmony Remote Software, but it would not allow, after the first few times, my Mac to update the Harmony 880. Frustrated, I tried Bootcamp and walked through the same processes w/o a hitch in Windows XP/ Firefox. I believe there are additional features in the Windows version as well.
