Parallels Windows Virtualization on Intel Macs

April 7th, 2006 8:32 AM | by Christen da Costa

ParallelsSure enough, just as Apple announced a beta for Boot Camp, software that allows you to boot Windows on your Mac, Parallels announced Workstation 2.1 support for Intel Macs. Parallels is a virtualization software that allows you to run multiple operating system under OS X.

Parallels is the first virtualization software to support OS X. This is not software emulation like VirtualPC. Parallels is more like hardware emulation. As far as Windows will know, it’s running on a PC, when it fact it’s running in a window on OS X.

Finally you can keep your uber-slick OS X for all your Mac apps and just run the Windows apps you need in a little Window (that can go full screen).

Very very cool. Ordering my MacBook today. I’ll be sure and report on this Beta.

[...] Since I just got my 2.0 Ghz MacBook Pro, I plan on giving you all my impressions over the next few weeks.  As a business user who plans on replacing his Dell to run Windows applications I should be able to give a pretty unique perspective.  I will be running Parallels Virtualization Software as well as Boot Camp for dual booting.  Stay tuned for the excitement that is to come! Parallels is brilliant. It runs faster than my Windows laptop and AMD XP machine. I run a MacBook. Sure you can’t play 3-d games and there are some issues with sound recording. But its speed, networking and stability are outstanding. It is like having two computers. The ability to switch between OSX and Win XP on my MacBook has to be seen to be believed.
