Same thing happened to me. My iHome turns on itself randomly all the time and scares the crap out of me. I read online that the iHome has problems with TV remote interference. That might be the problem.

I've had mine for 2 years and it recently starting turning on by itself. The other day it came on randomly set to an FM station at volume 39! My daughter quickly declared "poltergeist". I'd rather believe it's radio wave interference or something I can reason. Anybody find the solution to this problem?

"""Had mine for about 6 months and it voluntarily turns itself on during any time day or night, I have to unplug it when it’s not in use or make sure the volume is muted otherwise, come some crazy time, it just turns itself on again, otherwise, sound is great and it plays my ipod fine"""

Maybe you home is hunted???? BOO!

Terrible FM reception - tried a $10 radio next to this and it had better reception than the iHome. Got only 1 radio station...on every station!

Just received as a Christmas present at LOVED the idea. Unfortunatley 25 seconds into playing my iPod mini, something went terribly wrong and the "sad iPod face" reared its ugly head. I'm told it has likely fried my iPod hardward and there isn't much hope for repair -- we are sending it in for "exploratory surgery" today. So bummed. :(

We've enjoyed the basic iHome in our kitchen since Christmas 05. The sound is wonderful for our room size--but with the wood floors, etc., there isn't anything to absorb the sound.

While counter room isn't an issue, going with the iH36 now helps us clean up the clutter. If one has a decent hood evacuation system there should be no worries with greasiness or cleanliness, assuming you don't tuck it up under a cabinet near a cooking unit. Our basic iHome has just needed routine dusting, but now this new unit should even reduce that little chore.

The iH36 sound is good for our room as we use the device for warm, ambient sound rather than direct stereo enjoyment--but few compact units can deliver that. It sounds almost as good as our base unit iHome sounded, perhaps just a little warmer bass and a touch less treble due to the angle the speakers are firing. But, again, I think it is excellent sound for the need being met.

The remote works well under our halogen and xenon lighting. It also seems to work around incandescent lighting well, too. Your results will appear to vary if you use flourescent, though I can't add to that discussion based on personal experience.

We picked this up for $40 + tax at a popular bath store mid-December 06. They had it on sale for $50 (off normal $100 price) plus they let us use a 20% off coupon. At any price at $100 and below I consider this an amazing, high quality piece of technology where compact, under-the-cabinet design is important. At the $150 price we've seen at most places, it wasn't improved enough to get us to replace our base iHome. But with our bargain, we're tickled pink....er...white.
