AeroGarden Grows Plants and Herbs w/out Soil

My previous notion of gardening, plants, and anything that grows from the Earth was that it required soil. A company called AeroGrow has quickly changed this perspective by offering a system that enables plant growth through the suspension of plant roots in mid air. AeroGrow’s Aeroponics growth system works by extracting nutrients from the air – as oppose to soil – and additional help is provided through the “smartâ€? lighting and nutrient cycling system that reminds you when to water. AeroGrow is so confident in their product that they guarantee a 28 day harvest and claim 5 times faster growth 5 then soil based.
Available here starting at $150.

Dude? You’ve never heard of hydroponics? Nothing new.
Hydroponics..yes. We got a unit to see just what this thing is. This is the simplest system we have EVER set up! We’ll track the growth and update the page once a week…be interesting to see how it compares to our urban garden’s stuff :-)

Dude, this is Aeroponics, not hydroponics. Hydroponics doesnot mean without soil. I know plenty of people that grow veggies with Hydro and they use soil. Aerponics is truly without any growing medium whatsoever.
It is a great product, there is a pic of mine at my website at

Matt, this is hydroponics, not aeroponics. Without “aeration”, such as misters and pressure sprays, this is just plants floating in water, ergo “hydroponics”, regardless of what the company or name of the product says. Don’t get branded, dude.
Hey, Sam, have you researched the pictures? It IS Aeroponics…the plants are suspended above the water level and water is “trickled” into the sponge that the seeds sprout into. The plants are never “floating in water” until the roots grow long enough…then they are still suspended in the air. Duh.
