Spyder Active Sports in cooperation with d3o has crafted a safer ski suit thanks to a specially engineered material “made of intelligent molecules?. The material, or pads, are flexible, breathable and comfortable with normal activity. Upon sudden shock or impact the material locks together, or harden absorbing impact and preventing injury. According to product developers, the material is only protective during the impact itself making it difficult to gauge its effectiveness. Expect the suits to appear at this year’s Winter Olympics on US and Canadian alpine skiers.
