The LAPD may soon eliminate high speed chases. This means two things: 1) Less fatalities and collateral damage 2) lower ratings on the nightly 10 oβclock news (we get about one a week it would seem). They havenβt chosen to discontinue pursuit of said criminals, but have opted for a more strategic method by firing two GPS sticky darts at the chased vehicle. This will then enable officers to later track down the fleeing culprits via a web app that will map the location. The GPS device is called βStarchase LLC,β? will be mounted to the grill of the police vehicle and fired using a compressed air system. According to TechTree the LAPD currently experiences about 600 vehicle pursuits a year.
