The QuakeAlert is battery powered and provides up to a 2 minute early warning of an impending quake. The box works by reacting to “to vertical ground movements caused by vibrations in the form of motion waves from an earthquake.â€? The unit is designed to be wall mounted on a cushion of “651 Closed Cell Neoprene pressure sensitive adhesive foam.” The alarm itself is encased in a pewter colored aluminum and steel case.
