The Track Stick looks like it could be a great alternative to the $600 SMS World Tracker we saw last week. Only difference is that this little guy works by recording GPS location to its internal memory via 24 satellites at preset intervals. Once the device has been retrieved, its information can then be downloaded and mapped via Google Earth, Mapquest, and other 3rd party mapping systems. The 1.5oz tracking device is powered by 2 AAA batteries, is USB 1.1., and is slightly larger then a pack of gum.

It looks like the perfect gadget – something that you want enough to think up reasons for getting one, when you know in your heart the only reason is because you want it.

As we’re soon going to be visiting some little towns in Alaska, I think I may have the justification :)
