First it was WiFi, then it was Bluetooth, and now it is Wireless USB (Wisair is the primary developer). Many argued that Bluetooth would be trumped by WiFi, but as we have seen continued adoption of the wireless standard – often found in portable devices because of its low power consumption – that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Soon to emerge on the market, hopefully in 2006, wireless USB will supposedly eliminate the rat’s nest of cords tangled behind your computer – I know I need it. Speeds are reported to hit that of USB 2.0 (around 480MBp/s) using the frequency Ultra Wide Band (in the 500MHZ range) and should be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, so expect dongle adapters (as seen here) to flood the market.
