Seiko has announced the Spectrum, a new ultra-slim watch that features an electrophoretic display (EPD).
The Spectrum uses the Eletronic Ink technology by E Ink that we’ve been posting about for months. This is one the first commercial uses of the technology and it’s pretty cool.
According to Seiko the benefits are having a high contrast display of pure black and pure white particles, which allow the same contrast as on a printed page and twice the contrast of a LCD panel. Additionally, the claim the technology has led to a thinner design and lower power consumption.
Plus you’d be pretty cool if you get your hands on one of these limited edition watches. Only 500 will be made and they’ll be selling for £1000 or around $1700.
