Soon, you maybe able to carry all your medical info on a plastic card no bigger then the ones in your purse or wallet.
The New York City hospital and 8 affiliate hospitals are currently testing the SmartCard technology and plan to distribute the cards to 100k people next Spring. The SmartCards contain a microchip that can hold information about a patient, such as drug allergies, or medical history.
The cards are simply swiped at a reader and a pin is entered to receive the data. Ultimately, the cards should speed up patient processing, marginalize error, and link up patient info through out the country.
Now, only if the US could only come up with free national medical coverage.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
