How ironic would it be if you could detect cancer with a cell phone’s camera? Ironic of course, because cell phones have been thought to cause cancer. Moving on from my pessimistic thought…

A psychologist in Israel has developed a technology that soon maybe able to detect cancer, especially breast cancer by adding an infrared camera and some software to a cell phone. The women simply have to take a picture of themselves and then transfer the information to a lab for analysis. According to Dr. Yaniv, who developed this tech, says this method is far more effective then a self examination and examines two aspects: temperature analysis and oxygen flow to the area in question.

Already one Israeli cell phone company, Cellcom, is working on integrating this infrared camera and software.

This for real? I think I could detect breast cancer with a normal digital camera (no infrared needed)…I’d at least have fun trying to guess.
