XBox 360 Hard Drive Shortage

November 22nd, 2005 11:40 AM | by Christen da Costa | 6 Comments

By the time I finally got to reserving my XBox 360, they were all out of premium systems. Desperate for the unit, I picked up the Core, figuring I could just buy a hard drive and HD cable. Sure I was overpaying, but at least I didn’t have to buy an Omega Bundle.

Little did I realize that Microsoft wasn’t nearly done gouging its customers. The did not ship any hard drives to the retailers. After checking nearly 10 stores here, only a Circuit City got a single hard drive in. One. Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, fye, and EB Games all had Zero.

Of course, if I wanted to save a game, I hand to buy a pointless 512MB $40 memory card. You better believe Microsoft can still count on me spending $100 to buy the essential hard drive when they finally start shipping.

Way to make sure you could squeeze yet another $40 out of me for this launch. Okay that’s enough ranting.

Boycott. I won’t buy one now.

They have seriously screwed this up and now I’m just going to pass on the system.

I am in same position – exception I returned the core because you can’t get accessories

I got my 360 today but I have been looking for the hard drive for about a month. if I don’t find one soon I’ll send this peice of shit back and wait for the ps3. we need to start writing to microsoft and telling them how upset we all are about this god forsaken system.

Same here – wife bought 360 for me – I thought it’d be no problem getting hard drive – severely peed off. Plus totally underwhelmed by the release games.

I am in the same boat. Why? What is so hard about sending out enough hard drives? They have them for the premium bundles. I hate MS now.

  6. [...] After a long day of work and hunting down an XBox 360 hard drive, I finally got to go home and enjoy my XBox 360. I’m definitely not ready to give you a full review of the system, but I’d like to at least give my first impressions. [...]
