Nintendo has already announced its deals in the US to offer Wi-Fi access for its DS handheld (remember our post about McDonalds?) Now it looks like the deals are in place for Europe. You can expect more than 7500 hotspots in the UK alone when the network launches on the 25th. There will be over 15,000 throughout Europe.
What can we expect out of Nintendo’s Wi-Fi network? Each DS will have its own identifier and players can pop into any Wi-Fi hotspot without having to log on. Users will play for free and can compete against friends by locating them by their identifier (you can use buddy lists) or against strangers.
Using Nintendo’s Wi-Fi website, players will be able to check their scores or even find the closest Wi-Fi hotspot.
It looks like not only is Nintendo embracing wireless gaming, they’re heavily pushing it. Nintendo’s upcoming gaming console, code-named Revolution, will also support this network. Who will be the ultimate Mario Kart racer? Me.
