According to Think Secret, the upcoming Intel Mac mini is going to be a fully featured digital hub. Apple will be adding Front Row 2.0, TiVo-like DVR functionality, and a built-in iPod dock to the upcoming Intel powered Mac mini. The code name for the machine is Kaleidoscope.
While the speed of the Intel processor inside the new Mac mini is still unknown, there are rumors that the upcoming mini will use a 3.5″ hard drive, rather than a laptop drive. Although this will lead to a faster, larger capacity hard drive, it will also mean a larger form factor for the tiny Mac mini.
Since I always wanted to buy a Mac mini as a home theater PC, I’m really glad to see Apple making the move to turn the Mac mini into a digital hub themselves. Let’s just hope the DVR functionality supports HDTV.
