Need to track your adwords or non-adwords performance and don’t wanna spend the cash on a tracking tool? Then you’re in luck. Google now offers a (an assumption here) boiled down version of Urchin. I haven’t used the new Google Analytics tool yet, but I have used Urchin. Once I give this a shot I’ll let you know what they killed and what they kept.

The next question is how does this impact Google’s natural result, page rank, and adsense placement? They are essentially collecting and tracking information about all sort of campaigns that occur on the web. Anyone in e-commerce knows how important it is to have access to analytics to make their campaigns work – what has been effective where, etc. Google already had access to the information pertaining to adwords campaigns, but now their net spreads much further to other campaigns. I looked at their privacy policy but there seems to be little to no indication (there are some inferences made) to what they will do with this knowledge. Google does indicate that they won’t share information about ‘your’ users or collect specific info that would reveal who they are, but at times may collect information about their activities. In either case, it should be interesting to see how the skeptics voice their opinion about Google’s new, free tool.
