Google has been forced to change the name of its free web mail service, Gmail, in the UK. Google has been battling Independent International Investment Research (IIIR) who runs a webmail service known as G-Mail.
However, since Google failed to secure a trademark for Gmail and IIIR is asking for a ridiculous sum for the name (25 million pounds), Google will be renaming its service to Googlemail in the UK.
Starting with tomorrow, any UK customers who sign up for Gmail in the UK will be given googlemail.co.uk email addresses. Current customers will retain their gmail.com accounts. So that’s right, you blokes in the UK have 24 hours to grab a gmail.com account! Run!
