Pepsi and a company called Wirca willl roll out new Pepsi vending machines on a trial basis that will allow you to purchase a can of refreshingly crisp soda with your cell phone. The technology has actually existed for sometime and has been widely tested in certain parts of Asia.
We’re not sure on integration (Bluetooth, call a number, etc), but in an ideal situation, Pepsi would partner with your cell phone provider and simply tack on the charge to your monthly bill. The cell phone, in this case, is replacing the change. When you think about it further, many of use avoid placement of change and cell phone in the same pocket – this is just the obvious next step. Other integration methods could include buying credits that you place on your phone’s SIM chip.
What’s next – fast food restaurants and toll booths? Why not?
