Archos AV500 PVP Preview

With all the Apple iPod Video hoopla, it only seemed fitting to focus on yet another PVP.

The Archos AV500, first found at DAPReview.net and featured on CNET, is a formidable PVP offering a 30GB and 100GB version ($500 and $700 respectively). Much like the iPod Video, video playback time is limited due to battery constraints – expect to get 5 hours video playback. A wow factor is that you are able to record DVDs to the device. Not sure how Archos got around this one with all the impending media lawsuits going down. The device also comes packed with a full remote for home, or more likely, hotel room operation.

On the flip side, CNET found that the device was a little too heavy to meet true portability requirements (30GB was 9oz and the 100GB 11oz). The Archos AV500 also lacks a dock for home use and the ability to view photos while listening to music.

Visit CNET to view the full preview and video of the Archos AV500.
