Apple Remote and Universal Dock

Along with all the wonderfully cool products that Apple unleashed this morning, they also included an Apple Universal Dock and Remote.

The Apple remote works with the Universal Dock and your iMac G5’s Front Row software. With a click of the Remote’s buttons you bring up Front Row’s interface and you can interact with videos, photos, music and more.

Similar control can be had of your iPod is docked to the Universal Dock. Finally, Apple got smart and made the a dock that is backwards compatible with older iPods (this should enable Apple to sell more during the holiday shopping bananza) by including adaptors.

We are unsure if the Remote is infrared or Bluetooh. Hard to say, as Bluetooth makes the most sense if Apple wanted it to be backwards compatible with older macs. The thing that throws us off is that Universal Dock appears to have an infrared sensor on its front.

The Univeral Dock is compatible with the following iPods:

  • iPod mini (4GB and 6GB)
  • iPod with click wheel (20GB, 40GB, U2 Special Edition)
  • iPod with color display (20GB, 30GB, 40GB, 60GB, U2 Special Edition)

Apple Remote: $29.00 (available in 2-3 weeks)
Apple Universal Dock: $39.00 (available in 1-2 weeks)

The 30GB is 45% smaller (now 1/2″ thin) then the original iPod, and the 60GB model is 10% smaller then the 4th gen 20GB. The new iPod Videos also sport a larger screen at 2.5″ and an improved battery life from 15 hours to 20 hours. The largest iPod Video can hold up to 150 hours of video and 15,000 songs. You can also add a an optional S-Video cable on check out to play your iPod Videos on your TV from the all new Univeral Dock, which works in conjunction with Apple’s new Remote. [...]
