That Damn Phantom Game Box

Remember the Phantom gaming console? Well, the console was suppose to be released over a year ago now, and was constantly scrutinized as not being ‘real’, hence the name. I remember reading articles that reported people had visited the DBA address only to find an empty building; reminded me of the scene from Boiler room where he finds out the company he has been selling to his clients is fake. I actually spoke with the director of marketing 2 years ago, and he insisted the product was real. Wonder if he is still there? Nonetheless, Infinium, the company behind the system, insists they will still release the product.

Do you think it will succeed, because I sure as hell don’t. Infinium, and their Phantom box, are about to go head to head with the next revolution in gaming boxes. Having the ability to download games is just not that big of a deal, and if any one remembers DIVX at the time DVDs were launched, then they might, sorta, kind of know what I’m talking about.

On a positive, and some what promising note, Kevin Bacchus, who was part of the original team that founded Microsoft’s Xbox division, has taken the helm at Infinium.

Good luck Infinium, you are gonna need it. Oh, and on a final side note, it looks like Infinium has optimized Google’s natural results for ‘phantom’ – they’re number one, but if I remember correctly they are trying to sell more then ad space.
