Honda launches motorcycle airbag
Honda Motor announced its first motorcycle featuring an airbag on Thursday. The airbag will be standard on the new Gold Wing motorcycle, which is scheduled for release in the late spring of 2006. Current Gold Wing motorcycles start at $18,600.
The airbag is between the handlebars and will inflate if the four sensors on the bike detect a front-end collision. The airbag was designed as part of the Advanced Safety Vehicle project that has been going since 1990.
The airbag is designed for a staight-angle collision up to 31 mph. Given that most bikers never go 31 mph or less for more than a second, we’ll just have to see how many lives these things save.
