Google Chatting - IM or Phone

August 31st, 2005

Is there anything this company can’t do?

According to CNN, Google will soon offer an IM application for online chatting. This news comes on the heals of Google’s most recent product, GoogleTalk. GoogleTalk is a voice over IP tool that will allow those who have downloaded the application to speak with one and other, and according to Google those with similar programs, such as Apple’s iChat. The application will piggy back on Google’s renowned email system, Gmail.com, and utilize the address book.

Google is perhaps taking it a step further, and may be building ‘Google Network,’ as reported in Business 2.0. Google Network will enable location based ads based on IP, and lower their cost to operate their massive infrastructure by eliminating the middle man. Not too much is known at this time, but Google is working with a Wifi company in San Francisco called Feeva.

At this point it is hard to keep up with the apps Google and its many releases. Google also recently released Google Sidebar. Google Sidebar helps users manage Google Talk, News, music, and much more.
